Candidate Jason Elms- 2nd District Magistrate

Hello, folks of the 2nd district of Butler County,  I want to give you a little information about myself and why I am running for 2nd district magistrate.
My name is Jason Elms.  I have been married to Debbie Basham Elms for 22 years.  We have three children, Jessica Webb (Josh), grandson Ty, Justin Elms and Gracie Elms.  My parents are Shelby Jr. and Regina Elms.  Debbie's parents are OJ and Sue Basham.  I am a lifelong resident of Butler County.  Growing up I was never one of those kids that just couldn't wait to graduate and move away.  I am very passionate about Butler County.  I am employed by AT&T, working in Butler County 16 years of my 17-year career.  One of the great things about my job is that I am out in the county, running the roads, and seeing what needs to be done.  Also, I have the means to go and check something out during the day without much delay.  We live in the Richland Community.  I serve as Assistant Moderator of Sandy Creek Baptist Church. In the past, I have worked as Project Manager for The Comfort Group in Nashville, TN for four years.  Part of my job was dealing with budgets on major Federal bids and jobs.  I served eight years with the Butler County Little League as a board member.  I run a successful small farming operation, which also includes working under a budget.  I have owned and operated a small trucking company.  I have owned and operated a small trucking company.  With my work ethic, I have been taught over the years; I will work extremely hard for Butler County day and night.

Some of the things I would like to emphasize on if elected are:
1.  I promise to work with all county officials if elected.
2.  Our roads are a major issue.  The growth of our county in certain areas has outgrown our road system.  We need to work with the state to guarantee funds to widen and pave them to improve the safety of motorist.  Work with county, state and federal government to get the exits off Natcher Parkway ready for the I-65 Spur.  This will help insure safety for travelers from Bowling Green to Owensboro.
3.  In regards to my employment with AT&T, I am on the phone weekly with the engineer to make sure Butler County is on his mind for any upgrades on our internet infrastructure.  As an employee of such, I have been working for Butler County already for 17 years.  AT&T covers approximately 70% of Butler County residents with some type of internet access.  I know it could be better than dial-up and that is why I am constantly speaking out on this issue.  Another issue of being full-time employed is I am covered by our company insurance so I would not be adding this expense to the county budget.
4. I will support home-based Butler County businesses.  I feel if they are employing tax paying Butler County citizens and paying occupational taxes to the county to run a business here, then they need to have the utmost respect for our county officials.  Butler County needs to support them as well.
5.  The issue of arguing and fussing during Fiscal Court meeting needs to stop.  The county needs to come together and hold a professional meeting, so we don't look like a circus in front of the whole state.  That does nothing to attract new businesses at all.  I will work hard on this to help maintain a professional meeting atmosphere.
6.  Good paying jobs are a must for economic growth.  I will work hard with the County officials to make sure we can attract those businesses to locate here in our community so Butler County residents can have a good lifestyle we all want.
7.  One more thing I would like to try to do is work with our city government to help promote or help attract some sort of entertainment for our residents.  I will work with the Trail Town to promote the river and hopefully the walking trail from the boat ramp in town to Woodbury.

This is some of the issues I will work on if elected by you the citizens of Butler County 2nd District.  I want to thank you for taking the time to read this post, for your support and your vote on May 22nd.  Please vote Number 2 on the ballot.
