Cancer Support Group to Form

Tracy Cowles, Butler County Family & Consumer Sciences Agent, has announced the formation of a Cancer Support Group. The first meeting will be Tuesday evening, August 27, 5:30 p.m., at the Butler County Extension Office located at 122 East G L Smith Street in Morgantown.
What is the purpose of support groups?  Support groups present information, provide comfort, teaching coping skills, help reduce anxiety, and provide a place for people to share common concerns and emotional support.  People who take part in support groups believe they can live healthier, happier lives if they spend time relating to others.  They believe that when relatives and friends lend support, it is easier for people to deal with their health and social problems.  Some claim that the bonds formed between members of support groups help them feel stronger. Sharing feelings and experiences within support groups can reduce stress, fear, anxiety, and help to promote healing.  Evidence suggests that support groups can improve quality of life for people with cancer.
We invite all interested persons to attend the meeting.
