Butler County Tennis Teams Pick Up A Pair of Wins

The BCHS tennis teams hosted Cloverport on Friday night.  The boys match counted as a varsity match, whereas the girls match counted as a junior varsity, allowing for the less experienced on the girls tennis team a chance to compete.

On the boys side, things did not start off well for Butler County, as the Bears dropped the top three singles spots.  However, Butler County had more depth than the Aces and it started to show at the #3 spot, where Remmington Harpe barely lost his singles match.  From there on, it was all wins, as Butler County managed a 3-3 split in singles action.  With the team score tied at 3-3, the team result would be decided by whichever team took at least two of the three doubles matches.  Again, Butler County's depth would be the difference, as the Bears dropped the #1 doubles match but swept the #2 and #3 spots.  With the win, the boys move to 2-1 on the season.

The Lady Bears JV squad also took the courts and came out with a positive result for the young girls many of whom don't usually see much action in varsity matches.  Laura Hunt struggled to find a rhythm and fell at the #1 singles spot by a score of 7-9.  From there though, all the singles results were in Butler County's favor.  The most compelling match came at #3 singles where Ashley Bell found herself in a tie-breaker at 8-8, in order to decide the match.  Going to 7-by-2 in the tie-breaker, Bell found herself down 1-6 and facing down five match points.  Bell ran off five straight points but again found herself facing down a couple of match points at 6-7 and at 7-8.  From there though, she wouldn't face another match point but did give up a couple of her own match points, before winning the tiebreaker 11-9.

In doubles action, the Lady Bears took 2 of 3 to make the final team score 7-2.
