Butler County sweeps Grayson County in district doubleheader

LEITCHFIELD — Butler County swept a 12th District basketball doubleheader from rival Grayson County on Friday, Feb. 3.
In a 12th District girls' basketball game, Butler County pulled away to beat Grayson County 53-39.
Butler County prevailed 65-60 over Grayson County in a 12th District boys' basketball game.
The Bears and Lady Bears won on the road.

Boys' Basketball - Butler County 65, Grayson County 60: Butler County held on to beat Grayson County 65-60 in a 12th District boys' basketball game on Friday, Feb. 3. 
After notching the win, Butler County improved to 17-7 overall and 3-2 in the 12th District.
Grayson County dropped to 8-15 overall and 1-5 in the 12th District following the loss. 
Butler County overcame a slow start to prevail in the district game. 
Starting strong, Grayson County outscored the Bears 20-11 in the first quarter.
Grayson County led 28-27 at halftime but the Bears fared better in the second half.
Butler County moved ahead after halftime. The Bears led 45-42 at the end of the third quarter. 
Lawson Rice scored 23 points to pace Butler County in the district win.
Accompanying Rice in double figures for the Bears, Ty Price scored 21 points.
Nearly reaching double figures for Butler County, Luke Laughing netted eight points.
Rounding out Butler County's individual scoring, Justin Castlen added seven points and Trever Deweese contributed six points. 
Butler County is scheduled to host Ohio County on Tuesday, Feb. 7. Tip-off for the Butler County-Ohio County boys' basketball game is set for 7:30 p.m.
 
Girls' Basketball - Butler County 53, Grayson County 39: Continuing to lead in the 12th District Girls' Basketball Standings, Butler County defeated Grayson County 53-39 on Friday, Feb. 3. 
The win allowed Butler County to improve to 16-6 overall and 5-0 in the 12th District. 
Grayson County dropped to 10-13 overall and 1-4 in the 12th District with the loss. 
The Lady Bears set the tone early, outscoring Grayson County 19-8 in the first quarter.
Maintaining a lead, Butler County led 27-22 at halftime.
Remaining out in front, Butler County led 33-28 at the end of the third quarter.
Stretching its lead late, Butler County outscored Grayson County 20-11 in the final period. 
Jenna Phelps scored 21 points to lead Butler County to the district win. Phelps was the only Butler County player to reach double figures in scoring.
Ava Wilson (eight points), Taylor Leach (seven points), Ann Marie Skaggs (six points), Tinslea Belcher (five points), Parker Willoughby (two points), Bailey Moore (two points) and Kennedy Rice (two points) followed Phelps in Butler County's scoring column. 
Butler County is scheduled to visit Ohio County on Saturday, Feb. 4. Tip-off for the Butler County-Ohio County girls' basketball game is set for 7 p.m.
