Butler County Schools' Supt. Scott Howard announces retirement after 30 years in public education; to step down June 30, 2020

The Butler County Board of Education met in regular session on Tuesday, December 10th, 2019 at the Butler County Educational Complex.  Amy Hood, Delbert Johnson, Debbie Hammers, Aimee Sanders, and Ryan Daugherty were the board members present. The meeting was chaired by Superintendent Scott Howard, who made headlines with the announcement of his upcoming retirement as superintendent.   Howard, who has 30 years in public education, addressed the board and those in attendance. He thanked board members and all school employees for their support over the last twelve years that he has served as superintendent of Butler County Schools. Howard’s last  day in office will be June 30, 2020.

Under Communication Supt. Howard informed the board that the Butler County Schools Audit has been completed.  Mrs. Shannon West, of Carr, Riggs and Ingram CPA’s, presented results to the board. 

Mr. Robert Tuck, Assistant Superintendent of Butler County Schools, presented to the board three calendar options for the 2020-2021 School year.  All three options were approved by the calendar committee that is made up of parents, teachers, community members, and district administrators. The board will look over the options and take action at the January board meeting.

Under Student Instructional Services, Mr. Michael Gruber, principal at Butler County High School, and Mr. Tim Freeman, principal at Butler County Middle School, presented to the board a detailed report on their school’s achievement scores. Both principals highlighted their school’s success, where they showed growth, needs improvement, and next steps. 

The next meeting of the Butler County Board of Education will be Tuesday, January 7, at 6:30 p.m. at the education complex.

NOVEMBER MEETING OF THE BUTLER COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION:  


Morgantown Elementary and North Butler Elementary headline Board meeting with Achievement GAP Reports


The Butler County Board of Education met in regular session on Monday, November 8th 2019 at the Butler County Middle School Library.  Amy Hood, Delbert Johnson, Debbie Hammers, Aimee Sanders, and Ryan Daugherty were the board members present. The meeting was chaired by Superintendent Scott Howard. 

Under Superintendent’s report, Mr. Howard emphasized how a group of high school students visited Delta this past week.  The visit was to show high school students manufacturing positions, and opportunities for high paying work skills. There is another trip set in December for students to attend Logan Aluminum. 

“This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to see positions that are highly skilled paying jobs and close to Butler County,” said Howard.

Mr. Howard recognized Autumn Jenkins, a senior at Butler County High School, for qualifying for state competition in cross country.

The Butler County Youth Service program is gearing up for Toys for Tots in December. Mr. Howard thanked Melissa Glass and Karla Coles for all their efforts.  

Howard stated, “This is a great program for our community and reaches out to so many students who benefit from this event.”

Under the Consent Agenda portion of the meeting, the board approved the Butler County High School Science Club to the Science Center in Nashville TN, on December 5th.  Along with the Butler County Art Class Trip to visit NOSSI College of Art in Nashville, TN on December 6th.

 Under Student Instructional Services, Mr. Jimmy Felty, principal at Morgantown Elementary, and Mr. Josh Belcher, principal at North Butler Elementary, presented to the board a detailed report on their school’s K-prep results and Achievement Gap. Both principals highlighted their school’s success, where they showed growth, needs improvement, and next steps.
