Butler County Schools Secures $1.7 Million Grant for Area Technology Center Upgrades

(Butler County, April 23, 2025)— Butler County Schools has been awarded a $1.7 million grant from the School Facility Construction Commission (SFCC) to renovate its Area Technology Center (ATC), a move that will enhance workforce training and prepare students for high-demand careers in a rapidly growing industrial region.

The grant, made possible through House Bill 6, invited local districts and ATCs across the state to apply for funds to modernize their facilities. Ryan Emmick, Butler County Schools’ Director of Facilities, Maintenance, Transportation, and Safety, spearheaded the district’s application. The process was rigorous, with stringent qualifying standards that required detailed evidence of need and impact.

“Butler County is at the heart of a region poised for significant industrial growth,” Emmick said. “This grant will allow us to create a state-of-the-art learning environment that equips our students with the skills local employers need.”

The application highlighted Butler County Schools’ deep commitment to workforce development, showcasing its strong partnerships with local and regional industries, government agencies, and economic development organizations. These collaborations have positioned the district as a leader in producing college- and career-ready graduates, ready to meet the demands of a dynamic job market.

The $1.7 million will fund critical upgrades to the ATC, including HVAC system renovations, improved ADA accessibility, new roofing, and enhanced paving. These improvements aim to create a safer, more conducive learning environment for students pursuing technical and vocational training.

“This investment is about more than just a building,” said Superintendent Robert Tuck. “It’s about giving our students the tools and opportunities to thrive in a competitive workforce while supporting the economic growth of our community.”

Butler County’s ATC serves as a vital pipeline for skilled workers in a region identified by the state as a hub for industrial expansion. The renovations will ensure the facility meets modern standards, enabling the district to expand its offerings and accommodate growing enrollment in programs like advanced manufacturing, automotive technology, and healthcare.

ATC Principal Ray Hammer applauded the district’s success. “Butler County Schools has been an incredible partner for the region in preparing students for careers across multiple job sectors.  These upgrades will strengthen that pipeline for years to come.”
