Butler County rolls past Russellville 57-24

MORGANTOWN — Butler County rolled past visiting Russellville 57-24 in its 2023-24 season opener on Tuesday, Nov. 28. 

Setting the tone early, Butler County outscored Russellville 22-9 in the first quarter. 

Butler County led 44-12 at halftime and remained in control throughout the second half of the girls' high school basketball game. 

Under the direction of Coach Lexie Belcher, Butler County led 55-14 at the conclusion of the third quarter. 

Senior guard Taylor Leach scored 20 points to lead Butler County to the win.

Accompanying Leach in double figures for Butler County, freshman center/forward Ava Wilson netted 16 points. 

Narrowly missing double figures in scoring for Butler County, sophomore forward Ann Marie Skaggs netted nine points.

Chipping in offensively. Maddie Jones (four points), Parker Willoughby (two points), Tinslea Belcher (two points), Addison Miller (two points), Karrington Hunt (one point) and Isabella Easley (one point) accounted for the rest of Butler County's scoring. 

Butler County is scheduled to visit Cumberland County on Friday, Dec. 1. Tip-off for the Butler County-Cumberland County girls' basketball game is set for 7 p.m.
