Butler County outlasts Edmonson County in district tournament

LEITCHFIELD — Butler County outlasted Edmonson County 44-41 in the semifinals of the 12th District Girls' Basketball Tournament at Grayson County High School on Monday, Feb. 26.

Following the win, Butler County improved to 17-13.

 

Edmonson County ended its season 21-8 after suffering the loss. 

Butler County started strong, outscoring Edmonson County 16-10 in the opening quarter.

The Lady Bears led 25-21 at halftime but fell behind after the break. 

Edmonson County battled back to lead 34-33 at the conclusion of the third quarter. 

However, Butler County answered and managed to claim the win. 

Ann Marie Skaggs scored 16 points to lead the Lady Bears. Skaggs was the only Butler County player to reach double figures.

Narrowly missing double figures for Butler County, Ava Wilson netted nine points.

Following Wilson in scoring for Butler County, Taylor Leach and Bailey Moore posted six points apiece. 

Rounding out Butler County's scoring, Parker Willoughby added five points and Addison Miller contributed two points. 

Miller was also named to the All District Academic Team.

Butler County advances to meet tournament host Grayson County in the 12th District girls' basketball title game at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 29.
