Butler County Jail 2020 Report

Butler County Jailer Ricky Romans

Butler County Jailer Ricky Romans provided the following report to the fiscal court on December 28, 2020:

"The current inmate count is 46; it was 56 on January 1, 2020 so we have a decrease in population.

Currently, we have 29 state inmates and 18 county inmates. The high state inmate count ensures that we are bringing in as much funding to the county as possible. We are currently receiving $31.34 per day, per state inmate.

The Department of Corrections is currently setting new guidelines for all state inmates working outside the jail. Our goal is to start our Inmate Work Crew back in January, but the final decision will be up to the Department of Corrections. We have not had a crew working since November 11, 2020. Inmate movement is still minimal from jail to jail or jail to prison.

We have a new booking system that was effective on July 1, 2020. We are currently using EJail and inmate information can be viewed online.

A kiosk was placed in the jail that accepts credit cards. All inmate funds are deposited into the kiosk and daily receipts are printed for the inmates upon the time that the money is withdrawn from the system to make deposits.

Even with lockdown because of COVID-19, we still had 19 class completions this year in MRT, Parenting, and Re-Entry, as well as several inmates that completed portions of their GED.

We were one of the first jails in the state in compliance with Covid-19 Inmate Work Program Guidelines. This was a joint effort by our facility, Department of Corrections, the Health Department, and following all aspects and requirements of the CDC and the Governor. With these efforts, we were able to remain COVID-19 free until November. We have had no active COVID-19 cases of employees or inmates in three weeks."
