Butler County Extension Office has a new home

The old Pamida building has been vacant for a little over seven years now. During this time many in town have speculated what its new purpose in our lives would be.  All those rumors of groceries stores, skating rinks, etc. can be now put to rest because it is the new home of the Butler County Extension Office.
The building was purchased by the extension office two years ago.  However, being wise with their funds, they saved and waited until this past March to finally remodel the inside of the building.  From the outside, it still looks like the “old” Pamida building, but do not be deceived.  Once you step inside you will see absolutely no reminders of the shopping center it once was.

When speaking with Greg Drake he was adamant that they wanted space to not only house their offices, but be a space that the whole community could use.  Previously they only had a boardroom and a meeting room to conduct business and activities…now the new facility boasts a boardroom, two classrooms, a meeting room, and a large open area in the back on the building referred to as the activity room where our high school archery team currently practices.  Due to the massive increase in space, the office can now host up to four activities at once for the community.

Not only will the extension be able to host more events they previously had to turn away due to space restraints, but they can also offer rooms to the community to rent for events such as reunions and meetings.  Also in the building is a large full-size kitchen that can be utilized for functions as well.

When touring the office the names of two men appeared on the meeting room doors.  They were in memory of two very special individuals that are near and dear to the Butler County Extension office hearts… Sam Kent and Eric Ryan Young. The boardroom was named after Sam Kent, the former extension agent who served almost thirty-five years ago and was a vital part of the program become what it is today. A second room is named after Eric Ryan Young, a young man who was a beloved worker there until his premature passing. These two rooms are a testament to the love that the extension office has for their community.  When out and about, stop by and see your new extension office, become involved, and see what programs they have to offer you or perhaps a program you would like to offer yourself.

The Butler County Extension Service will host a Grand Opening Celebration on Wednesday, November 7th at its new location of 102 Parkway Lane, Morgantown, from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.

At 4:00 p.m., Dwayne McKinney, Chairman of the Extension District Board, will cut the ribbon officially opening the new facility.  A short program will be held after, recognizing a few folks that made the new facility come to reality.  We invite all members of the community to come out, tour the new facility, enjoy some refreshments, and see what the Butler County Extension Service has to offer.
