Butler County drops road game to Henderson County

HENDERSON - Visiting Butler County stumbled on the road late as Henderson County pulled away to win 6-2 in a high school baseball game on Thursday.
Butler County slipped back into the loss column after posting three consecutive wins. With the loss, Butler County dropped to 6-5.
Henderson County notched its third straight win. With the win, Henderson County improved to 9-5.
The game was tied 2-2 with Henderson County batting in the bottom half of the fifth inning when Maclaine Morris singled on a 0-1 count to score one run. Henderson County plated three runs in the fifth inning to take a 3-2 lead. Then, adding to its lead, Henderson County added three more runs in the bottom half of the sixth inning.
Butler County was limited to two hits in the setback.
Alex Chumbler pitched the Colonels to the victory. Chumbler allowed two hits and two runs over four and a third innings, striking out three as he picked up the win.
Closing out the game on the mound for Henderson County, Jacob Workins threw two and two-thirds innings in relief.
Butler County pitcher Zach Smith took the loss. Smith pitched five innings, allowing three runs on six hits, striking out two and walking one.
Nolan Melton went 2-for-4 with three RBIs to lead the Henderson County offensive attack.
The Colonels overcame three errors in the field to claim the win.
Caleb Beasley and Gage Ward each managed one hit to lead the Bears at the plate. Ward and Parker Rice drove in one run apiece for the Bears.
Butler County committed four errors in the setback.
The Bears are scheduled to visit Franklin-Simpson on Saturday. First pitch for the Butler County-Franklin-Simpson baseball game is set for 11 a.m. in Franklin.
