This year the Butler County Cross Country team, comprised of 31 students from fourth grade through high school, is coached by Erin Mohan and Gary Ludwig.  The runners are divided into Elementary teams and Varsity teams.  The Varsity cross country runners compete in 5K races while the elementary teams competed in 2K runs. 
The season kicked off for all runners at the Warren East Raider Twilight Run in Bowling Green, KY on Saturday, August 27, 2016. While the BC Varsity runners didn’t place in the top 15 individual winners or the top 3 team winners, the times were still very impressive.  Trey Stovall was the first BC male runner to cross the finish line with a time of 20:45.88 while Autumn Jenkins was the first BC female varsity runner with a time of 24:35.93.   
After the first meet, the Butler County Varsity girls were ranked 3rd in KY 1A 2nd region and the Boys Varsity were ranked 5th.
In the elementary division, Olivia Renfrow was the first elementary girl to cross the finish line with a time of 13:33.05.  Parker Smith was the first Butler County elementary boy to cross the finish line and the race’s 2nd place winner with a time of 8:00.84.    The team consists of five boys (4th -6th grade), and because all five of the Butler County elementary boys came in within the top 34 runners (of 106), the team earned the 3rd place overall trophy.  Three of the five boys also brought home individual medals as they placed in the top 15 elementary male runners.
Butler County Cross Country team ran their second meet of the season on Sat. Sept. 3 in Franklin, KY at the Wildcat Wilderness Invitational.  All runners had shorter times in their respective races this week showing dedication among the runners and overall improvement. 
The first BC Varsity boy to cross the finish line this week was Trey Stovall with a time of 20:23.21 while Hannah Perry was the first BC Varsity girl to cross the line with a time of 23:10.33.  This week the 11 Butler County varsity girls completed the 5K between 23:10.33 and 31:03.49, and the boys ran it between 20:3.21 and 31:55.38. 
During this meet, the elementary team also made improvements.  Taylor Leach, the first BC female runner to cross the finish line placed 6th overall in the elementary girls' division while Parker Smith placed 1st overall in the elementary boys' race.  Taylor completed the race in 9:32.81 while Parker completed it in 8:16.39.  With all five Butler County elementary boys coming in within the top fifteen, these boys brought home a 2nd place team trophy. 
The team travels to Kereiakes Park in Bowling Green, KY  on Saturday, Sept. 10 for the Purple Strider Invitational for their next meet.
