Butler County Chapter NSDAR Veteran of the Year

Bobby Escue was chosen to be the Butler County NSDAR Veteran of the Year.  Bobby lives in Rochester with his wife Thelma (Tot) Jenkins Escue.

Bobby was born on January 22,  1932 in Sheffield,  AL.  His parents were Mattie Laurel and Frank Escue.

Bobby joined the Alabama National Guard in 1949.  He moved with his family to Huntsville, KY in 1950.  He was called up by the Alabama Guard to active duty in January 1951.   He completed his basic training at Fort Jackson in South Carolina.

 

In the fall of 1951, he was deployed to Korea.  He spent 10 months on the front lines in the heavy combat zones.    During the last two months, he fought on the front line Hill 1062.  He also spent time on Bloody Ridge and Punchbowl Hill.

 

Bobby earned 4 medals and 2 bronze stars.  He was discharged in August 1952. 

 

He returned to Butler County where he later married Thelma Jenkins.  They had four children Michael (Cheryl) Escue of Muhlenberg County, Bruce Escue of Provo, Connie (Terry) Drake of Provo, and Tammy Pouge of Butler County.
