Butler County Chapter NSDAR recently had their Silver Awards Program at BCHS Commons on April 23, 2024. The chapter presented 2 scholarships. Bryleigh Jones, daughter of Christie & Jerry Hurt, received the Butler County DAR Scholarship. Bryleigh wrote of the pride and appreciation she has for her family members that served in the United States military, especially Carl Grubb, Ardell Abbott, and Troy Abbott from the WW II and Vietnam eras. She plans to attend Kentucky Wesleyan College and major in Education so that she might teach at the elementary school level.

Maci Boone, daughter of Robert Boone and Tiffany Keen of Allen,Texas, received the Ermie Lee Martin Scholarship. Maci is the granddaughter of Daniel and BCDAR member Mabel Romans Boone and 6th great granddaughter of John Porter, Jr, a Revolutionary War Patriot. She attended Allen High School and participated in both the marching and concert band of over 600 students. She was also a member of a team who placed 2nd in the state of Texas for their computer animation project. Maci plans to attend Texas A&M University School of Performance, Visualization, and Fine Arts in College Station Texas with a major in Visualization.
