The 38th annual Butler County Chapter NSDAR Veteran’s Breakfast was held Saturday, November 11, 2023, at the Butler County High School Commons. The breakfast was first held in 1985 in the basement of the United Methodist Church with Mrs. Helen Hunt catering. In later years it was held at the Woodbury House restaurant, the Butler County Library and now has been at BCHS for over 10 years. There has always been a wide range of veterans in attendance, from young to old, from all branches of service.

This year’s program began with a welcome from Chapter Regent Lynda O”Driscoll followed by the pledge to the United States Flag led by Chapter Flag Chair, Gail Gaddie. After the invocation delivered by Chaplain Peggy Drake a delicious breakfast was served. Then this year’s Veteran of the Year, Bobby Escue was recognized by Regent O’Driscoll. Mr. Escue served during the Korean War Era and was deployed in the fall of 1951, where he served on the front lines receiving 4 medals and 2 bronze stars before being discharged in August of 1952. All veterans in attendance were then recognized by Jane Smith and thanked for their service.
