Butler County blanks Warren Central in season opener; beats F-S; loses to Grayson

BOWLING GREEN - Productive Butler County won its season opener on Tuesday, Sept. 8, shutting out host Warren Central 2-0. 

With the win, Butler County opened the 2020 high school volleyball season 1-0.

Warren Central remained in the loss column following the early-season setback, dropping to 0-2. 

Under the direction of head coach Ruthie Minton, Butler County pulled away to win the first game over Warren Central 25-10.

Continuing to excel, Butler County beat Warren Central 25-15 in the second game to the win the match. 

Grace Embry (5 kills, 3 blocks, 1 service ace), Alexis Burdin (9 assists), Autumn Gidcumb (4 kills), Cassidy Parker (2 kills, 1 assist), Carley Jones (1 kill, 3 assists, 1 service ace) and Delaina Flener (1 kill, 1 digs, 1 service ace) combined to lead Butler County to the victory.

Butler County's 2020 schedule consists of matches versus Warren Central, Russellville, Franklin-Simpson, Grayson County, Whitesville Trinity, Edmonson County, Allen County-Scottsville, Barren County and Cloverport. 


Butler County outlasts Franklin-Simpson, 2-1


FRANKLIN - Determined Butler County managed to outlast host Franklin-Simpson 2-1 in a high school volleyball match on Monday, Sept. 14.

Overcoming a slow start, Butler County beat Franklin-Simpson 14-25, 25-13, 25-19.

Butler County dealt Franklin-Simpson its third straight setback. 

With the win, Butler County moved to 3-0.

Franklin-Simpson dropped to 1-3 with the loss.  

Delaina Flener (3 kills, 4 digs), Grace Embry (2 kills, 1 block, 3 service aces), Autumn Gidcumb (2 kills, 6 digs, 6 service aces), Kayla Green (2 kills, 2 blocks, 1 dig), Carley Jones (1 kill, 4 assists, 1 service ace), Abigail Dockery (3 digs) and Alexis Burdin (5 assists) each contributed for Butler County in the victory.

Alera Barbee (11 kills, 3 digs, 2 assists), Carly Bush (6 kills, 2 digs), Aysia Fuller (2 kills, 12 assists, 2 digs, 1 service ace), Lauren Johnson (3 kills, 1 dig, 2 service aces), Alyssa Spears (2 assists, 12 digs) and Fantasia Suggs (1 kill, 6 assists, 3 digs) combined to lead Franklin-Simpson in the short effort. 

Butler County and Franklin-Simpson aren't scheduled to meet again during the 2020 high school volleyball season.


Lady Bears drop district match to Grayson County


MORGANTOWN - Host Butler County suffered its first loss in the 2020 high school volleyball season as Grayson County pulled away to win 3-0 in a 12th District match on Tuesday, Sept. 15.

With the loss, Butler County dropped to 3-1 overall and opened 0-1 in the 12th District.

Grayson County improved to 4-1 overall and opened 1-0 in the district with the win. 

Visiting Grayson County won 25-15, 25-16, 25-17.

Chloe Cox (11 kills, 4 digs), Ella Robinson (9 kills, 1 block, 12 digs, 6 service aces), Allie Dotson (8 kills), Kenzie Skaggs (7 kills, 8 assists, 4 digs, 4 service aces), Brieanna Boll (2 kills, 27 assists, 1 dig), Alexis Brown (6 digs), Lillie Payne (2 blocks, 1 service ace), Bailey Richardson (5 digs), Alexis Brown (6 digs) and Autumn Riggs (2 digs) each contributed for Grayson County in the district match. 

Several players contributed for Butler County during the district match as well, including Delaina Flener (4 kills, 3 digs, 1 service ace), Autumn Gidcumb (3 kills, 1 assist, 3 digs, 1 service ace), Grace Embry (3 kills, 2 digs, 3 service aces), Cassidy Parker (2 kills, 1 dig), Kayla Green (1 kill, 2 blocks), Abigail Dockery (10 digs), Alexis Burdin (10 assists) and Carley Jones (2 assists, 2 service aces).

Butler County is scheduled to visit Grayson County for another 12th District match on October 1.
