Butler County ATC Students Host Health Career Expo at MES

Through a grant obtained through Community Education, students from the Butler County Area Technical Center were able to put their skills into action as they hosted a Career Fair at Morgantown Elementary School on Friday, April 20th, 2012.

Students in Mrs. Rogers’ Emergency Procedures class first learned and demonstrated their competency in performing First Aid and CPR according to the American Heart Association guidelines.  They then created materials to use in their present.  Students worked in stations to teach the children what to do in a variety of emergency situations.  Stations included general safety, bleeding and wounds, bone, muscle, and joint injuries, adult and infant CPR and choking.

Students in the Principles of Health Sciences class researched various careers and created presentations to share with the students.  At the elementary school, fifth graders rotated through to the stations to learn of the educational requirements, job duties, and other information about the career.

A total of 125 students were able to practice these first aid skills and learn about various health careers.
