Butler County Arts Guild: Butler County Pride Visual Arts Project & Chalk Art Festival

Harlie VanMeter and her creation.

The Butler County Arts Guild recently hosted the Chalk Art Festival and has another event planned for this coming weekend as part of the Rochester Crafts & Arts Festival.  The Butler County Arts Guild is sponsoring an art contest called the "Butler County Pride Visual Arts Project," exclusively for students.
"We're excited to announce a new project called, "Butler County Pride."  This will be an ongoing project, involving different ages, events, contests and types of art. It gives all Butler Countians (or anyone with Butler County roots) a chance to express how they feel about our beloved county, using various mediums at different times. Our kick-off takes place at the Rochester Festival on Saturday, September 24th," said Karen Harper Lain, BCAG President.
All Butler County school children (including home schooled) are invited to enter the "Butler County Pride Visual Arts" contest. Contestants may draw, paint, sculpt, photograph or use any medium that counts as visual art to express what they love the best about Butler County. All art will be displayed at the historic Green River Deposit Bank building at Rochester.

On September 10, in conjunction with the Butler County Public Library, the West Ohio Street Chalk Art Festival occurred.  Individuals of all ages grabbed chalk and created their masterpieces in the street.  Events included a silent auction, door prizes, dancing in the street by the Morgantown Line Dancers, free popcorn courtesy of Rebecca's On Main, water courtesy of Style with a Smile, free cookies and coffee courtesy of Grace Temple, and free ice cream courtesy of Morgantown Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
