Butler County Adult Education Graduation Ceremony

On June 26, 2012 the Butler County Adult Education ended their year with a ceremony to present diplomas to 8 of our 41 graduates that received their GED's and high school diplomas.

Delia Burns, Adult Education instructor, welcomed over 65 family members and graduates. Randy Burns, Pastor of Monticello Baptist Church and instructor, led the invocation. Hazel Short, Director of Adult Education, gave the opening remarks. Mrs. Darlene Scott introduced the speaker, Michael Baker, a former student and graduate of Butler County Adult Education.

Michael told of his experiences and the mistakes that he made as a young man. He said he always had plans to continue in the furniture and appliance store business.

"Times change, the store closed and I had a wife and four children to support," Michael said, "Ms. Georgia L. Romans encouraged me to take the GED test and this was one of the many steps I took to change my life."

Mr. Baker has worked hard, changed his life, and now works for Black Hawk Composites. He encouraged everyone there to pursue their goals and added that getting your education is a big step in that direction.

Instructors Sharon Taylor and Ersley Amos presented GED's to Samantha Meredith, Daniel Gidcumb, Bridgette Bandy, Tommy Bratcher, Shelia Brown, Delores Pierce, and Brandy Moore.

Daymon Deweese and Michael Camus were presented their high school diplomas.

The Butler County Adult Education will re-open on July 23, 2012 to begin a new year. Programs offered include high school diploma, GED, studying for the Compass test, studying to become a United States Citizen, or learning to speak English. Call 526-4560 and leave your name and phone number on the answering machine and you will be contacted when classes resume.

Adult Education also wants to wish Mrs. Darlene Scott a wonderful retirement and a big THANK YOU for all that she has done for Adult Education.
