Butler Co. High School Volleyball

Last week the Lady Bears opened their volleyball season with three impressive victories defeating Metcalfe County, Russellville, and Frederick Fraize all in straight sets.  Monday night was a double header against Metcalfe and Russellville at Russellville High School.  The Lady bears got off to a slow start against Metcalfe, but played hard and pulled away at the end for a 25-20 win in the first set.  Much better play in the second set saw the girls cruise to a 25-15 victory.  Autumn Gidcumb lead the way with 15 serves, London Howard and Lillian Gidcumd had 33 and 28 sets respectively, while Delaina Flener had 17 kills.

The Russellville game was the second of the night for the Lady Bears.  The girls jumped out to a quick lead and defeated the home team 25-12 in the first set.  In the second set the girls also jumped out to a big lead but got sluggish and let the cougars battle back to make it close, but not close enough.  The Lady bears won the second set 25-19.  London Howard lead the way with 15 serves, Lillian Gidcumb had 13 sets, and Delaina Flener had 9 kills.  Abby Dockery played libero in both games and lead the team with 16 and 9 digs.

Tuesday night the girls traveled to Cloverport to face Frederick Fraize in both JV and Varsity. The JV team played really well in the first set and easily won 21-5.  Frederick Fraize battled hard in the second set while the Lady Bears had difficulty serving, but pulled it together for a 21-15 victory. This was the JV’s first game of the season.  The varsity also defeated Frederick Fraize in straight sets, 25-19 and 25-9.  The first set saw the Lady Bears start slow, having difficulty communicating and their serves were a little off.  They pulled together, behind strong serving from senior captain Lilly Gidcumb, in the second set to win going away.

Up next for the Lady Bears is Todd County on Monday night and then Thursday night is the 2019 home opener against Edmonson County.  Games begin at 5:30 both Monday and Thursday.
