Butler County Middle School Softball kicked off its 2017 season last week at Franklin-Simpson for a scrimmage and have since played Bowling Green and Logan County in regular season action.  In the "A" game, the Bears fell 7-2 to Franklin, 7-1 to Bowling Green and lost a close a 1-0 decision to Logan.  The middle school "B" game team lost decisions to Franklin and Bowling Green but came back to pick up a 7-3 win at Logan County.

BCMS Softball is in a rebuilding year after losing ten 8th grade starters from last year's squad.  However, the team has been practicing hard in preparation for the season.  Weekly workouts were held January through May, several practices with returning players were held in June and full squad practice with new players began July 10.

The 2017 team has six 8th graders - all expected to play key roles with the team.  They are Carley Jones, Gracie Cardwell, MaKinna Embry, Kaylee Dockery, Isabella Akers, and Taylin Clark. 

Returning 7th graders are Cheani Schroeder, Taylor Raymer, MacKenzie Coleman, and Avery Gleason.  New to the team this year are 7th graders Shelby Parrigan, Lydia Decker, and Cheyanne Elmore.

New 6th graders are Addison Miller, Jalyn Embry, Madison Clark, Stormee Flint, Mia Thomas, Karlee Cameron, and Lola Clark.

"We have a great group of kids on this team and they have really been working hard this summer," said head coach John Embry.  "We've show improvement across the board in our first few games and we hope to build on that as the season progresses." 

James White and Colten Cardwell are assistant coaches.

"James and Colten have done a great job working with our players and we're fortunate to have them on staff," said Embry.
