BTN Fall Sports Preview: Butler County Middle School Football
“Individual commitment to a group effort – that is what makes a team work, a company work, a society work and a civilization work.” – Vince Lombardi – that is the quote you will find on the front cover of the 2017 BCMS Football Handbook. The program’s focus this season, according to new head coach Elijah Flener, is to not only build quality football players but to also produce responsible, passionate young men.
This year’s season promises to be a fun and entertaining one. The 8th grade team, coming off of the heels of winning the 7th grade Green River Valley Conference (GRCV) championship last year, should have another successful season. They are 25 members strong, with size and experience on their side. They have their sights set on a state championship this year.

The 7th grade team, although smaller in number and size, have several players returning from last season to provide experience and skill. Their goal is to have a winning season and bring home the GRVC Championship again this year.
Flener, along with his assistants Kaleb Parks, Michael Elmore, Travor Martin, and Hawk Laughing, have been working hard all summer preparing their team for competition. The Bears’ first game was at home Thursday, August 10 against McLean County. The 8th grade won 38-0 and the 7th grade won 32-0. All home games will be played on the high school field.
