Brownsville Road shooting leads to arrest, attempted murder charge

On April 9, 2020, Butler County Sheriff's Department (BCSD) was dispatched to 11494 Brownsville Road about a shooting. BCSD Deputy Joe Alford and Morgantown Police Department Officer Jessie Burden responded to the scene. Upon arrival, Brenda Mahaney was lying on the ground.  She stated that Donald Renfrow shot her in the leg. Renfrow was given verbal commands by officers to come out of the residence with his hands in the air. Renfrow obeyed commands. Renfrow stated that he was protecting himself as he thought they were coming to kill him. 

Butler County EMS responded to the scene and transported Mahaney to the Medical Center at Bowling Green. She was later transferred to Skyline in Nashville. She has since been released. 

Deputy Alford obtained a statement from Angela Embry, who was standing next to Mahaney when she was shot. According to Deputy Alford, the dispute was concerning a dog. Renfrow gave a verbal statement that was recorded. He was placed under arrest and lodged in the Butler County Jail on the charge of attempted murder.
