BOYS' HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: Bears top reigning region champion Apollo, 61-56

MORGANTOWN - Butler County returned to the win column on Tuesday night, defeating visiting 3rd Region rival Apollo 61-56 in a non-district boys' high school basketball game.

With the win, Butler County improved to 2-3.

Apollo, the reigning 3rd Region champion, dropped to 1-7 with the loss. 

The Bears dealt Apollo its seventh straight setback. 

Butler County shot 45.2 percent (19-of-42) from the field. The Bears were 4-of-17 from 3-point range. 

Nearly automatic in one of the top foul shooting performances in school history, Butler County shot 95 percent (19-of-20) from the free throw line. 

Junior forward/guard Parker Rice led Butler County with 20 points. Rice was 9-of-9 from the free throw line. 

Senior forward Jaden Hurt accompanied Rice in double figures for the Bears, scoring 18 points. 

Leevi McMillin netted seven points, Justin Elms chipped in six points and Solomon Flener added four points for the Bears. 

Jagger Henderson and Macauley Hampton rounded out the Bears' individual scoring, registering three points apiece. 

The Bears, under the direction of head coach Calvin Dockery, won for the second time in three games. 

Butler County will remain home to host Edmonson County in a 12th District boys' basketball game on Friday night. Tip-off for the Butler County-Edmonson County boys' basketball matchup is set for 7:30 p.m.
