Boys & Girls Club to redesign Town Club Site to Teen Center

Bruce White

The Boys & Girls Club of Butler County hosted a special community announcement on Tuesday, August 8, at their club location on South Tyler Street in Morgantown. The Town Club site is being transformed into a Teen Center with all new programs and technology. The Teen Center will target the community's teens (12-18 years of age) to engage them in workforce readiness technology to prepare them for potential employment within the community.

Elementary students will attend clubs at North Butler Elementary and Morgantown Elementary after school.

Boys & Girls Clubs across the nation are coming together to help our youth meet the workforce challenges of tomorrow. The workforce has drastically changed over the past few years, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.

"One in 9 young people between the ages of 16-24 aren't in school or have a job. This is where BGCBC steps in. We want to combat this issue by providing our young people with strong mentors and programs," said Amanda White, BGCBC Director.

The new programs will encourage teens to:

1) Explore their interests and passions

2) Develop their employability skills

3) Apply their knowledge to real-world work experiences

Teens can access programs and technology in our workforce readiness program, including Dobots, 3D printing, Oculus, and iWall.

Butler County Schools' Superintendent Robert Tuck expressed his support of the Teen Center and the school district's willingness to supply space for the elementary clubs.

"We all want to work together for the betterment of our community. This partnership is great for our students," said Tuck.

"The county is proud to be part of this, and we applaud you for your efforts," said Butler County Judge/Executive Tim Flener.  "It will be exciting to see the impact of this on our future workforce in Butler County."

"We want to thank Houchens, Morgantown Bank & Trust, Butler County Schools, Butler County, and the city for their support. We are also talking with Logan Aluminum and Delta Faucet," said Bruce White, former director and longtime supporter of the B&G Club.
