Boys & Girls Club hosts Hawaiian Luau

The children at the Boys & Girls Club of Butler County held a special Hawaiian Luau this afternoon to mark the end of their Hawaiian unit of study. Club Director Debra Hall explained that children at the club learn about a different theme each week and this week they learned about Hawaiian Luaus. Students learned about luaus this week in addition to making flowers, instruments, and learning a dance to go along with the theme. She said that the luau provided the club with a fun way to invite members of the community out to the club to see what is happening there.

Hall said, "We have a mission here at the Boys & Girls Club: To inspire and enable all youth, especially those who need us most, to realize their full potential as caring, productive adults. You do that by teaching teamwork, manners, and sharing in addition to being a good community member."

After all of the guests arrived, the children took their places and the dance began. Alexis Kenny, a WKU student, led the dance.

The percussionists played along with the music for the dancers.

After the luau dance was complete, Paige performed a special song for the guests.

Hall, on behalf of the Boys & Girls Club, wanted to thank those in attendance in addition to all who volunteered their time to help make this event a success.
