Born Learning Academy

Melissa Glass with parents.

Tuesday, October 10, marked the first meeting of the Born Learning Academy held at Morgantown Elementary School.  Founded via a grant from the United Way, the Born Learning Academy is a series of six workshops for parents and guardians to attend that will help them increase the percentage of children that are kindergarten ready.  Melissa Glass of the Butler County Family Resource Center stated that the first teacher a child has is their parent and the time with their children before they begin school is valuable. The workshops will provide resources and techniques that individuals can utilize at home to turn everyday activities into learning opportunities for their children.

Delia Burns

During the first meeting Dr. Hood, Ms. Delia Burns, and Melissa Glass met with parents and guardians, introducing them to the program and explaining its purpose.   About fifty people were in attendance for the first meeting including parents and their children.  Door prizes, a meal, and child care were also provided for by Ms. Otey during this meeting.
