Board of Education: All schools now qualify for free breakfast & lunch

The Butler County Board of Education met in regular session on Tuesday, June 13, at the Butler County Education Complex. All board members were in attendance.

District Finance Officer Eric Elms presented the financial report for May.  The beginning balance was $2,278,822.40. The end-of-the-month balance was $2,439,391.20.

Superintendent Scott Howard communicated several things to the board in his report.  He began by praising the principals for the graduation ceremonies at each school.  Howard also praised TVA and Travis Vincent for the donation of electronic tablets to Morgantown Elementary School and said he “really appreciates everything TVA has done for Butler County Schools.”  He told the board about several recent events he has attended, including a memorial service for Linda Nash at Morgantown Elementary School, Butler County High School Honors’ Award Ceremony, retirement celebrations, GRREC board meeting, and a Family Resource/Youth Service Center meeting and luncheon. Howard informed the board that the assistant principal vacancy at Morgantown Elementary School has been filled.

Beginning in the 2017-18 school year, all Butler County Schools qualify for free breakfast and lunch through the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP). According to Food Service Director Kaitlin Harrison, “Including our high school as a CEP school to make us a full CEP district has been our goal since we incorporated the program.  We are very excited to extend this benefit to every student in the Butler County School District.”

Superintendent Howard stated, “It was the goal of the district and the board of education to eventually have the entire district under the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP).  I am so proud of Mrs. Harrison and her entire school nutrition staff for the hard work on this program.  Our building level principals also play an important role in the success of Butler County Schools sustaining this program.  When school begins in August, parents and guardians will not have to worry about breakfast and lunch money for any student in the Butler County Public School District.”
