Big Day planned in Morgantown as city park reopens

Saturday, May 27, is a day that Morgantown Mayor Billy Phelps has likely had circled on his calendar for the last several weeks.  It is the day that the Charles Black City Park will officially reopen following a renovation project that spanned over two years.  


"I am absolutely thrilled about the upcoming grand opening of the Charles Black City Park this Saturday, May 27 at 10 a.m.," said Mayor Billy Phelps.  "This park is a testament to our dedication in providing an outstanding recreational space for our community. Join us for free food, community sports, a pie in the face event, and a chance at $10,000!”


A busy day of activities is planned:

10 a.m.:  1813 Freedom Park Dedication

10:30 a.m.:  Official Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

11:00 a.m.:  Food, Games/Tournaments/Farmers' Market

1 p .m.:  $10,000 Basketball Shot

2 p.m.:  Morgantown City Pool Opens


Additionally, the first 100 people through the gate will get a free scoop from Chaney's Dairy Barn and free ice from Kona Ice.

Old-Fashioned games, 3-on-3 basketball tournament, cornhole tournament, and a disc golf tournament will also take place.  Free hot dogs and hamburgers, chips and drinks will also be available.
