Beech Tree News presents: "Bears Spotlight" Maggie Childers

Maggie is a senior at Butler County High School and is a member of the BCHS Chamber Choir, BCHS archery team and FCCLA regional president. She is the daughter of Jaman and Andrea Childers. The Childers family live in southern Butler County.

Maggie began singing as soon as she could talk, and became interested in music at the age of 11. She has learned to play the guitar, ukelele, bass guitar, piano, and more.

Maggie is a part of the BCHS Chamber Choir serving as Executive Coordinator for four years. She sings soprano and has been selected to the KMEA’s All-State chorus multiple years as a soprano.

She is also a regional and state distinguished singer and has had many opportunities to accompany her choir for special events such as singing in Frankfort at the state capitol and at Rupp Arena for the KHSAA boys state basketball tournament championship.

Maggie won a state songwriting competition as the 4-H written communication grand champion for her song “The Great Escape”. She wrote the song about her older brother moving away to college and how she missed him.

Maggie is a 2024 Governor’s School of the Arts alumni. She attended in summer 2023 for vocal music. Maggie maintains a 4.0 GPA and was a top 10 junior at BCHS.

She is the FCCLA Regional President and local chapter Vice-President (4 years). In 2023, she came in 3rd place at Nationals for Parliamentary Procedure, and was a state champion in 2022, 2023 and 2024 in the same category. 

Maggie is also very involved in Kentucky 4-H. Beyond her involvement, she has achieved chapter, regional and state champion in the written communication category.

Spanish Club- Member (1 year)

Butleriare- Member (1 year)

Maggie attended HOBY (Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership program) in the summer of

2023, and the HOBY WLC (or the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership World Leadership Conference) later that summer. She went back this past summer as a volunteer to help give student ambassadors the same experience she was fortunate to have. (HOBY is a youth leadership organization that identifies the leadership abilities of high schoolers and helps them apply those skills to their communities and the world. It is recognized as one of the world’s most prominent organizations focused on youth leadership and is an eye-catching addition to any college application)

Maggie is also a member of the BCHS archery team and was able to compete at the KHSAA state championship her junior year.

Maggie is a proud Christian and enjoys volunteering at her church weekly. She sings on Wednesdays and volunteers for her church VBS in the summers. 

Maggie currently works for BeechTree News/WLBQ Radio as a morning anchor. She assists with tech services for live broadcasts and enjoys co-anchoring the morning radio talk show, “Out On A Limb”. She also enjoys playing music for events as a side gig and teaches guitar lessons to local youth.

In her free time, Maggie enjoys hanging out with her friends and boyfriend, Jonah. She also enjoys writing music which she began doing in second grade. Maggie also enjoys traveling, including several trips through study abroad opportunities with Butler County Schools, and is looking forward to her European trip in spring 2025.
