Beech Tree News presents: "Bears Spotlight" Justin Castlen

Justin is the 6’3” starting forward for the 12th district championship and 3rd region championship basketball team. He helped lead his team to an undefeated season against 3rd region opponents this year. He is a junior at BCHS and the son of Richard and Joanna Castlen. The Castlen family live in the Brooklyn community of Butler County.

 


Justin began playing basketball in first grade in the Butler County Junior Pro league. In middle school, he was a part of the 6th, 7th and 8th grade GRVC championship teams and was a part of an undefeated season his 8th grade season.


His dad, Richard, graduated from Owensboro Catholic High School in 1991 where he played basketball and baseball. Richard received the 110% award all four seasons while playing basketball for the Aces.


Justin’s papaw, the late Joel Duke, played basketball for BCHS from 1960-63 under the leadership of Coach Bill Warren. He was on the 1963 team that played in the regional championship.


Justin also plays baseball for the Bears where he played on the middle school team and currently for the BCHS varsity team.


He received his first Varsity start while he was an 8th grader and was able to play alongside his older brother, Chance Castlen.


Justin has played travel baseball and AAU basketball in the off-season. Justin attends Christ Covenant Church. He enjoys hunting, fishing and doing custom modifications on trucks.


Justin was selected for the all-tournament team for the 12th district tournament for basketball the last two seasons and all-season team for the 12th district tournament for baseball his freshman season.
