Beech Tree News presents: "Bears Spotlight" Duncan Tyree

Duncan is a 6'1" first baseman and right-handed pitcher for the Butler County High School baseball team. He is also one of the founding members of the BCHS Bass Fishing team. He is a senior at BCHS and the son of Chad and Rebecca Tyree of Quality, and the brother of Emily Tyree, BCHS Class of 2020 and Valedictorian.

Duncan started playing baseball at four years old and fell in love with the uniqueness of the game. Baseball requires both teams to go to home plate to score as opposed to other sports using one end of the court/field to score which is what peaked his curiosity for the game.

Duncan has played baseball for the Bears his entire high school career. Last season, Duncan finished the year with a 3.7 ERA. In his senior season, Duncan will be taking the mound and playing first base.

Fishing has always been a hobby for Duncan in his free time. When he received the news that BCHS would be forming a bass fishing team his freshman year, he knew he wanted to be a part of it. Duncan caught his first smallmouth Bass at the Regional tournament on Lake Barkley weighing in at 3 lbs 8 ounces.

Duncan’s papaw, Dwight Gardner, played baseball and basketball for the Bears through high school in 1964-68 and was on the first ever BCHS football team in 1966. Duncan’s dad, Chad Tyree, was the first baseman for the Bears baseball team on the 1987-91 teams.

Duncan is the current Butler County FFA chaplain and has been a member of FFA since his freshman year. He has a passion for agriculture and taking care of God’s creation. FFA has given him the opportunity to share his agricultural knowledge to future generations and gain leadership skills in the ag industry.

Duncan currently lives and works at Quality Valley Cattle Company in Quality, KY. Some of his favorite pastimes are reading his Bible and sharing God’s word with everyone, hunting, fishing, golfing with friends and cattle farming. Duncan is a member of Union Missionary Baptist Church in Morgantown, KY.

Upon graduation, Duncan plans to become a Kentucky State Trooper once he turns 21 and continue his agriculture family business with Quality Valley Cattle Company.

Congratulations on all your accomplishments while at BCHS, Duncan!
