Bears to Visit McLean County for district opener

MORGANTOWN - Following an open week, Butler County is set to visit rival McLean County for its Class 2A, District 2 opener on Friday, Sept. 24.

 

Butler County is 3-1 overall. After dropping a season opener to Russellville, Butler County has reeled off three straight wins over Waggener, Breckinridge County and Grayson County. 

Quarterback Jagger Henderson is leading the Bears. Through the air, Henderson has completed 30 of 61 passes for 358 yards and five touchdowns. Henderson has thrown three interceptions.

Contributing on the ground, Henderson has rushed 27 times for 172 yards and four touchdowns . 

As a team, Butler County has rushed 100 times for 515 yards and six touchdowns.

Pacing the Bears on the ground, Colton Dunnells has rushed 42 times for 186 yards and two touchdowns

Solomon Flener paces Butler County in receiving. Flener has reeled in 12 receptions for 141 yards and two touchdowns. 

Defensively for Butler County, Josh Morris has recorded a team-high 48 tackles. 

McLean County is 4-1 overall and 0-1 in Class 2A, District 2 The Cougars have notched wins over Ohio County, Washington (Ind.), Muhlenberg County and Todd County Central. Earlier in the month, McLean County dropped a game to Grayson County.

Quarterback Brodie Cline leads the Cougars. Cline has completed 25 of 53 passes for 548 yards and four touchdowns. He has thrown four interceptions.

Thriving on the ground, McLean County rushed 219 times for 1,218 yards and 17 touchdowns in the first half of the 2021 high school football season.

James Haerle, Lucas Mauzy and Zach Clayton rank as McLean County's top three rushers. 

Brady Dame leads the Cougars in receiving. Dame has hauled in 16 receptions for 471 yards and five touchdowns. 

Delivering on the defensive side for McLean County, Clayton has registered a team-high 29 tackles.

The Cougars pulled away to beat the Bears 42-28 when the two teams battled in a district game during the 2020 high school football season. 

Kickoff for the Butler County-McLean County football game is set for 7 p.m..
