Bears upend Ohio County, 20-7

HARTFORD — Butler County upended non-district opponent Ohio County 20-7 in a high school football regular season finale on Friday, Oct. 28. 

With the win, Butler County improved to 8-2.

Ohio County dropped to 3-7 following the loss. 

The Bears scored first and never trailed, leading 6-0 at the end of the opening quarter.

Butler County led 12-0 at halftime and remained in control throughout the second half.

The Bears led 20-7 at the conclusion of the third quarter. 

Garrett Phelps led Butler County to the win, completing 14 of 19 passes for 144 yards and two touchdowns.

Luke Laughing emerged as Butler County's leading receiver. Laughing hauled in eight receptions for 78 yards and one touchdown. 

In addition to Laughing, Gage Beasley reeled in one touchdown pass reception for the Bears. 

Butler County rushed 46 times for 227 yards and one touchdown in the non-district win. 

Colton Dunnells paced Butler County on the ground, rushing 22 times for 146 yards. 

Reaching the endzone via the ground in Butler County's win, Brody Hunt rushed 11 times for 57 yards and one touchdown.

Defensively for the Bears, Dunnells and Devin Poston recorded seven tackles apiece. 

Contributing to Butler County's defensive effort, Jay Peralta, Lonnie Phelps and Carson Miller registered six tackles each. 

Providing a lift in the secondary for Butler County, Laughing recorded an interception. 

Following the regular season finale, Brandon Embry-coached Butler County quickly turns its focus to the postseason. 

Butler County is scheduled to host Class 2A, Region 1 member Murray in the first round of the Class 2A 2022 UK HealthCare Sports Medicine State Football Finals on Friday, Nov. 4.
