Bears Track Team has a Solid Showing at Muhlenberg

The Butler County Track team traveled to Muhlenberg County to participate in one of the toughest meets of the season.  A young Bear’s team went up against 16 other schools such as Owensboro, Apollo, Daviess County, and Graves County.

Although the Bears couldn’t quite live up to the very tough competition, the team had some very good things to take away from the meet.  Drake Embry, who has just come off a recent knee surgery, had a nice showing in the boy’s races finishing in the top half of two races that had more than 30 participants.  Embry finished the 100 meter dash in 16th with a time of 12.91 seconds.  He also placed 15th in the boy’s 200 meter dash with a time of 26.01 seconds.  Butler County junior Ethan Jenkins also had a very nice finish in the boy’s 400 meter dash, finishing 10th out of 30 runners with a time of 58.73 seconds.  Jenkins also finished 10th in the boy’s 3200 meter run against almost 40 runners.  Drew Henderson had a solid showing in the boy’s 300 meter hurdles, which is one of the toughest races possible.  Henderson finished in the middle of a very experienced pack.  Henderson was also a part of the 3rd place boy’s 4x400 relay along with Travis Higgs, Nolan Johnson, and Kenneth Johnson.  In the high jump event, Dylan Havens was a mere two inches from placing 2nd in a very tight competition.  He took home 5th place.

The Girls Team also had some nice performances.  Katie Holland finished 10th in the 100 meter dash against 32 runners.  She posted a time of 15.30 seconds.  Shaedy Scott finished just behind her in 13th with a time of 15.64 seconds.  Holland finished 9th in the girl’s 200 meter dash with a time of 33.29 seconds.  Miranda Pierson finished 3rd in the girl’s 400 meter dash with a time of 1:11.44.  Pierson also finished 12th in the 1600 meter run with a time of 6:13.40.  Olivia Neighbors finished right behind her in 13th posting a time of 6:14.67.  The Girls also had solid showings in the field events from Candace Ibarra and Paula Hilliker.

When asked about his team’s performance, Coach Jim Melton had this to say: “We ran against some really tough competition.  If we can get used to performing against teams of this caliber, I believe we can perform well during the region competition.”

The Track team will return to action in at Warren East of April 9th, and again at Grayson County on April 12th.
