Bears top Mustangs 70-63 in Marshall County Hoopfest

BENTON — Winning its season opener on a neutral court, defending 3rd Region boys' basketball champion Butler County topped McCracken County 70-63 in the Marshall County Hoopfest on Saturday, Dec. 7. 

The Bears edged the Mustangs 15-14 in the opening quarter.

However, Butler County and 1st Region member McCracken County were tied 32-32 at halftime. 

Butler County managed to exit the third quarter ahead 54-51. 

Reigning 3rd Region Player of the Year Ty Price poured in a game-high 31 points to lead Butler County to the win.

Accompanying Price in double figures for Butler County, Trever Deweese scored 12 points and Justin Castlen netted 11 points.

Chipping in offensively for the Bears, Briar Griffin added eight points, Clayton Deweese contributed six points and Case Hooten tallied two points. 

Butler County is scheduled to visit longtime rival Warren East for its next game in the 2024-25 boys' high school basketball season at 6 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 9.
