Bears top Metcalfe County, 87-57
MORGANTOWN — Continuing to win early in the 2022-23 boys' high school basketball season, Butler County topped visiting Metcalfe County 87-57 on Thursday, Dec. 1.
After notching the win, Butler County moved to 3-0.
The Bears started strong, doubling up Metcalfe County 28-14 in the first quarter.
Butler County led 42-31 at halftime and remained in control throughout the second half, quickly stretching its lead after the intermission period.
The Bears led 76-47 at the end of the third quarter.
Butler County shot 60.4 percent (32-of-53) from the field. The Bears finished eight-of-17 (47.1 percent) from three-point range.
Butler County shot 88.2 percent (15-of-17) from the free throw line.
Ty Price poured in a game-high 34 points to lead Butler County to the win. Price drained five of 11 three-point field goal attempts.
Delivering a double-double for the Bears, Lawson Rice scored 26 points and pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds.
Accompanying Price and Rice in double figures in scoring for Butler County, Justin Castlen contributed 11 points.
Eight different players provided scoring for the Bears. The additional scorers for Butler County were Trever Deweese (six points), Carson Miller (three points), Kolton Hudson (three points), Keagen Grubb (two points) and Luke Laughing (two points).
Aiding Butler County inside, Laughing and Castlen claimed nine rebounds and eight rebounds, respectively.
Limited offensively, Metcalfe County shot 30.5 percent (18-of-59) from the field. The Hornets shot 36.7 percent from three-point range, connecting on 11 of 30 attempts beyond the arc.
Metcalfe County shot 71.4 percent (10-of-14) from the free throw line.
Jax Allen scored a team-high 13 points to lead the Hornets. Accompanying Allen in double figures for Metcalfe County, Maddox Garrett and Logan Phelps scored 12 points apiece while Wyatt Blythe netted 10 points.
Metcalfe County received scoring from eight different players.
Butler County is scheduled to visit Owensboro Catholic on Saturday, Dec. 3. Tip-off for the Butler County-Owensboro Catholic boys' basketball game is slated for 7:30 p.m.
