MORGANTOWN - Butler County is scheduled to tip off the 2020-21 boys' high school basketball season at Owensboro on Monday, Jan. 4. 

The Bears and Red Devils are 3rd Region rivals. 

The Kentucky High School Athletic Association Board of Control postponed winter sports to Monday, Jan. 4 during its meeting in November. 

Butler County is the reigning 12th District champion. The Bears, under the direction of head coach Calvin Dockery, compiled a 21-10 record during the 2019-20 boys' high school basketball season. After capturing the 12th District title, Butler County made an appearance in the 2019-20 3rd Region Boys' Basketball Tournament.  

Owensboro exited the 2019-20 boys' high school basketball season 21-11. The Red Devils finished runner-up to rival Owensboro Catholic in the 2019-20 3rd Region Boys' Basketball Tournament. Owensboro is the defending 9th District boys' basketball champion. 

Butler County and Owensboro did not meet during the 2019-20 boys' high school basketball season.

Tip-off for the Butler County-Owensboro boys' basketball game is slated for 7:30 p.m.

Lady Bears to open hoops season at Cloverport

MORGANTOWN - Butler County is scheduled to open the 2020-21 girls' high school basketball season at Cloverport on Tuesday, Jan. 5. 

Familiar foes, Butler County and Cloverport are rivals from bordering districts.

The Butler County and Cloverport hoops teams are slated to meet in the opening game of a girls-boys basketball doubleheader in early-January. 

The Lady Bears ended the 2019-20 girls' high school basketball season 13-17. Butler County's 2019-20 season ended in the 12th District Girls' Basketball Tournament Semifinals. Head coach Lexie Belcher guides the Lady Bears. 

Cloverport concluded the 2019-20 girls' high school basketball season 9-20. The Lady Aces lost to Meade County in the 2019-20 11th District Girls' Basketball Tournament Semifinals. Head coach Brian Weatherholt guides the Lady Aces. 

Butler County swept two games from Cloverport during the 2019-20 girls' high school basketball season. 

Tip-off for the Butler County-Cloverport girls' basketball game is set for 6 p.m.
