Bears' Softball opens season 2-0 with wins over Russellville & Owensboro

Butler County's offense proved too much for Rusellville on Monday night in 13-3 rout in Morgantown.  Russellville scored the first run of the game but the Bears roard back to capture the lead and take control of the game.  Eight runs in the first three innings allowed the Butler County to put the game away early.

A two-run triple by Lynsie Clark and an error in the first inning supplied the early offense for the Butler County.  Clark racked up three RBIs on three hits for the Butler County Bears Varsity.

Starting pitcher Taylor King got the win for the Butler County. She allowed one run over two innings. King struck out one, walked three and surrendered two hits.

In a closing role, pitcher Kassie Jo Phelps put away the final 12 outs to record the save.

The Bears tacked on another five runs in the third. Clark kicked things off with a single, bringing home Amy Rogers. That was followed up by Natoshia White's single, scoring Clark.

Butler County added three more runs in the bottom of the fourth. A hit into a fielder's choice scored Abigail Fry for the inning's first run. That was followed up by a Kassie Phelps double, plating Clark and Hannah Peach.

Butler County made the most of 2 hits in 3-0 victory over Owensboro on Tuesday night in Morgantown.
Both teams had scoring chances, but it was  Butler County  that was able to capitalize on them.  Hannah Peach racked up three RBIs on a fourth-inning home run for the Bears.

Owensboro got five hits compared with just two for Butler County, but the Red Devils stranded six on base.
The fact that the Butler County Bears Varsity grouped all of their runs into the fourth inning helped them take advantage of their hits.
Pitcher Kassie Jo Phelps kept Owensboro off the scoreboard for all seven innings she was in the circle. She pitched a shutout, allowing no runs on five hits while striking out five.
