Bears Softball goes 2-2 in Woodford County Tournament

BCHS Softball won the consolation bracket at the Woodford County Spring Break Tournament.

The Butler County High School Softball Team traveled to Woodford County during Spring Break, going 2-2 in tournament play and winning the consolation bracket.  The Bears, struggling at the plate, fell to Central Hardin and Collins High School on Friday night.  Butler County battled back on Saturday, picking up wins over host Woodford County and the Christian Academy of Louisville (CAL).

Central Hardin 8,  Butler County 1

Despite Amy Rogers's 2-2 performance at the plate on Friday, the Bears took a 8-1 loss at the hands of Central Hardin High School at Woodford County.

Morgan Manning was a workhorse on the rubber for the Bears. Manning allowed six earned runs, nine hits and three walks while striking out four over six innings of work.

The Bears' lone run of the ballgame came in the third inning on an error.

Collins 8,  Butler County 1

The Bears wound up on the wrong side of a 8-1 score in their second game on Friday, tasting defeat at the hands of Collins High School.
Amy Rogers was solid at the plate for the Bears. Rogers went 1-3 and scored one run. She singled in the seventh inning.

Morgan Manning had eight strikeouts and allowed three earned runs.  She gave up ten hits and one walk over six innings.

The seventh inning saw the Bears score their only run of the game.

Butler County 8, Christian Academy of Louisville 1  

The Bears took down Christian Academy of Louisville 8-1 on Saturday at Woodford County after slamming CAL with five runs in the fifth inning. Amy Rogers went a perfect 3-3 at the plate for the Bears. She tripled in the third inning and singled in the fifth and sixth innings.

Morgan Manning picked up the win for the Bears. Manning pitched seven innings and allowed no earned runs, five hits and one walk while striking out two.

Butler County 4, Woodford County 0 

Lynsie Clark went 2-3, sparking the Bears to a 4-0 victory in six innings over Woodford County on Saturday. She singled in the second inning and doubled in the sixth inning.

The Bears' Morgan Manning kept Woodford county off the scoreboard for all six innings she was on the hill. She pitched a shutout, allowing no opposing players to cross the plate on four hits while ringing up three.

The Bears never surrendered the lead after the second inning, scoring one run on an RBI-single by Jazmin Reynolds. The Bears built upon their lead with three runs in the sixth. Lynsie Clark kicked things off the scoring with a double, plating Amy Rogers who started the inning with a double and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Natoshia White. 

Key defensive plays by Taylor King with a diving catch in right with two runners on base and a doubleplay by Lynsie Clark and Natoshia White (following a lead-off triple) helped keep the Woodford County scoreless.

Butler County (9-4) returns to action tonight at home against 12th District foe Whitesville Trinity.  First pitch is set for 5:30 p.m.  The game will be broadcast live on WLBQ 1570 AM with Smokin' Joe Morris.
