Bears set to tangle with "dangerous" Wildcats

The Butler County Bears and the Edmonson County Wildcats both endured lopsided defeats last week and each will be looking to rebound on Friday night in Morgantown.  Butler County (5-4) dropped a 61-12 decision to Hancock County last week, while Edmonson (3-6) fell 60-14 to Monroe County.
BCHS Coach Ryan Emmick knows his team must be able to put last week's game in the rear-view mirror in order to prepare for a solid Wildcat team.

"Edmsonson County is a very dangerous football team.  They have an explosive runningback in Jacob Tobias.  He is their leader on the field and is a "do all" player for them," said Emmick.  "They will find ways to get the football in his hands and will try to get him on the edge offensively.  They also utilize him in the kicking game thus we have to be solid in all aspects there as well."

The Bears will once again get a look at a familiar offense.

"They run a variation of the wing-t offense.  We had a good 1st half last week against the wing-t but must keep our composure in the second half," said Emmick.  "Our keys and reads are important and as a team we must strive to do our job to the best of our ability.  We have to do a better job tackling and getting pursuit to the football."

According to Coach Emmick, Edmonson runs a 3-4 defensively but will "sprinkle in some 4-4 and 3-3 stack."

"They love to stay in a cover 3 shell and force you to make hard throws.  Our offensive line must step up and open up throwing and running lanes.  This game will be won up front and we must reestablish a new line of scrimmage every play," added Emmick.

While focused clearly on Friday night's game, the Bears are also aware of the KHSAA playoffs that will start the following week.

"This game sets up our playoff run.  We will be travelling to Princeton just like last year to face Caldwell County in the playoffs.   We need to head into the playoffs on a positive not and we must go out and execute Friday night and get back to playing "fun" football," said Emmick.

Kick-off between Butler County and Edmonson County will be at 7 p.m. on Friday in Morgantown.  Be sure to log on or tune in to WLBQ 1570 AM for the game broadcast.  Veteran broadcaster David Clark will have the call.
