Bears set to battle Panthers in key 3rd Region matchup
The Butler Co. Bears travel to Daviess Co. High School Tuesday, Jan. 14 th to face the
Panthers. Daviess Co. is a District 9, Region 3 powerhouse again in 2024-25 season. Daviess
Co. is to date (8-4) on the season overall record. Many believe this game could be an early
look at a regular season version of the Regional Championship.
Daviess Co. Panthers returns two key players that bring explosive talent nightly.
Juniors Jonathan Moss & DeAaron Watkins led the Panthers in scoring averaging 19 and
17 points respectively per game. The Panthers if you’ll recall last season went 24-8, losing
to the Bears in the first round of the Region 3 tournament 79-69. Point guard Jonathan
Moss had 34 points in the loss. Moss is explosive and can take a game over if allowed to
shoot freely. The Panthers in the way of depth off bench; appear only to play *7 players
nightly. Defensively only allowing *54 points per game.
In scheduling this season common opponents Daviess Co. and Butler Co. have
both played Louisville Male HS, Newport HS, Owensboro Sr. HS, and Whitesville Trinity
HS.
The Bears (6-7) record overall to date. This is a tough road matchup and with the
recent weather; neither team has played a game in eleven days. Strength of schedule would
favor the Bears; but this Region 3 matchup is a classic. The game is scheduled for Tuesday,
Jan. 14 th with the JV game at 6pm followed by the varsity tipoff at 7:30pm. Daviess Co.
High School is located at 4255 New Hartford Rd. Owensboro, Ky.
