Bears roll past Clinton County, 61-0

MORGANTOWN — Remaining in the win column, Butler County pulled away to beat visiting Clinton County 61-0 in a late-season non-district high school football game on Friday, Oct. 21. 

Butler County improved to 7-2 after notching the win.

Remaining winless, Clinton County dropped to 0-9 following the loss.

Butler County set the tone early, outscoring Clinton County 14-0 in the first quarter. The Bears led 34-0 at halftime and remained in control throughout the second half. 

Butler County rushed 21 times for 291 yards and six touchdowns in the convincing victory. Five different Butler County players scored at least one touchdown in the shutout win.

Colton Dunnells led Butler County on the ground, rushing six times for 85 yards and one touchdown. In a nearly identical effort, Brody Hunt rushed seven times for 85 yards and two touchdowns in Butler County's triumph.  

Chipping in on the ground for the Bears, Gage Beasley, Luke Laughing and Carson Miller added one rushing touchdown each. 

Delivering through the air for Butler County, Garrett Phelps completed seven of 10 passes for 78 yards and one touchdown. 

Keagen Grubb led the Bears in receiving. Grubb hauled in four receptions for 64 yards.

On the receiving end of Phelps' scoring strike for Butler County, Laughing reeled in a 12-yard touchdown pass reception. 

Carson Miller led Butler County's defensive effort, recording 10 tackles, one tackle for a loss and one sack. Behind Miller, Devin Poston registered six tackles and one tackle for a loss for the Bears. 

Thriving in the secondary, Hunt and Beasley each returned an interception for a touchdown for the Bears. 

Pacing Butler County on special teams, kicker Lonnie Phelps connected on seven of nine PAT attempts. 

Butler County is scheduled to visit Ohio County for its regular season finale on Friday, Oct. 28.
