Bears roll over Trinity; face Grayson tonight for 12th District Championship

Butler County cruised past Whitesville Trinity 75-49 on Tuesday night in the first round of the 12th District Tournament.  The Bears (19-11 overall, 14-3 in the region and 7-0 in the district) will face Grayson County tonight (Friday) at 6 p.m.  Whitesville Trinity is the host school for the 2013 12th District Tournament

Tuesday's game was never in doubt as the Bears raced to a 21-7 first-quarter lead.  From there it was all Butler County as the Bears notched the 75-49 win.

Butler County placed three players in double figures with senior guard Brandon Thomas leading the way with 15 points; Elijah Flener and Trevor Jenkins added 11 apiece.

 Butler County (75):  B. Thomas 15, E. Flener 11, T. Jenkins 11, Z. Woodcock 9, Z. Burden 9, A. Hall 9, R. Henderson 8, A. Hundall 3.

Butler and Grayson have squared off twice so far this season with the Bears winning both.  On November 30, the Bears outpaced the Cougars 56-48 at Morgantown.  Later in the season on January 4, Butler earned the 64-52 win at Leitchfield.

For BCHS Head Coach Calvin Dockery, there are no mysteries when it comes to playing Grayson County as both teams are familiar with each other.

"We realize what is ahead for us, but at this point both teams know each other fully," said Dockery.

Tonight's 12th District Championship game between Butler and Grayson at Trinity will be broadcast live on WLBQ 1570 AM/Beech Tree Radio with pre-games slated to begin at approximately 5:45.  Smokin' Joe Morris and Diane Dyer will have the call.  For complete game coverage and photos by Jeremy Hack, stay connected to Beech Tree News and WLBQ.
