Bears roll 49-10 over Todd

The Bears locked up the runner up slot in the district with a strong win over the Todd County Central Rebels 49-10. The win secures home field advantage as the number two seed for the first round of the K.H.S.A.A. State Playoffs on Friday, November 6th. More details to come later.
The Bears defense forced the Rebels to punt on its opening possession. The Rebel punt rolled dead at the five yard line. The Bears would take only four plays to march ninety-five yards for the first score of the night. The big play was a slip screen pass out of the backfield to Ian Embry on third and three. The run catch netted eighty-three yards. From first and goal at the six, QB Rex Henderson ran the keeper for the touchdown. The Logan Richardson kick was good, Bears 7-0.

Todd Co. responded with a five play drive that resulted in a thirty-two yard field goal, score 7-3 with 4:44 left in the first quarter of play. The Bears would take only two plays and cover eighty-five yards; Ian Embry bolted for a fifty yard gain, then Henderson again on the keeper sprinted thirty-five yards for his second rushing touchdown on the night.  Bears up 14-3 with 3:51 in the first quarter.  Todd Co.’s next possession was a ten play drive but on a fourth down they could not convert to keep the drive alive and the Bears took over on downs.
The Bears again, took only two plays to find the end zone for the third time of the night. A forty yard pass from Henderson to Jacob Hixenbaugh who was downed at the one yard line just short of the goal. Henderson on the QB sneak, for the touchdown, kick good. Bears led 21-3.
The Bears defense played a team effort all night swarming to the football and shutting down the Rebel run game. Todd’s QB Harris was averaging over one hundred yards per game rushing, on the night Harris would rush fifteen times for only twenty yards. Kudos to the entire Bears Defensive Unit of Flener, Markham, Hunt, Arnold, Smith, Brosnan, Graham, Allen, Kirby, Lee, Cameron, Embry, Hixenbaugh, & Henderson.
Linebacker Dylan Kirby intercepted a Harris pass that set up another Bears score.  Blake Graham would cap off a five play drive, and get the call for a five yard touchdown run, kick good score 28-3 with 4:06 left in the half. The Bears defense would force Todd to go three plays and punt; and the Bears had the ball right back. The Bears would drive eight plays with a Henderson to Graham touchdown pass that covered seventeen yards, kick good score 35-3 as the half came to an end.

The second half began with a Bears turnover, on first down a lost fumble would be recovered by the Rebels. The Rebels would get their only touchdown of the night on a three play drive, kick good; score 35-10 with eleven minutes to play in the third quarter.
The Bears would put up fourteen more points on the night, a mix of run and passing. QB Rex Henderson had a solid performance, passing for three hundred and eighty yards on the night. Completing seventeen of twenty-three passes good for two touchdowns.
With 11:22 to go in the game, Henderson got his fourth rushing touchdown of the night from five yards out, kick good score 42-10. And the final score of the night would be a Henderson to Brenden Shanklin pass from twelve yards out. Kicker, Logan Richardson, the junior transfer from Florida made all seven kicks good on the night; score 49-10 with 6:49 left to play in the game. With this lead the running clock took over by KHSAA rule.  The Rebels would be held at bay again by the Bears defense as the clock would run out.

The Bears now (7-2) overall, and (3-1) in district play will play the last regular season game at home on Friday, October 30th vs the Ohio Co. Eagles in a non-district game. This will be the first meeting between the two teams since 2005. But more important, this will be Senior Night for six football seniors.  Jacob Hixenbaugh, Jacob Courtney, Ian Embry, Chris Wood, Isiah Arnold, and Alfredo Gomez.  Kickoff is at 7 p.m. on Friday, October 30.
