Bears, Rebels to square off at Elkton

Butler County football is hoping to get back on the winning track tomorrow night with an important district game on the road against Todd County Central.  The Bears lost a tough 49-35 decision to Union County last week, while the Rebels took it on the chin with a  51-17 shellacking at the hands of Owensboro Catholic.  The game has definite district ramifications with Butler currently sitting at 1-2 in district play and Todd at 1-1.

Butler County coach Ryan Emmick expects a hard-fought game.

"Todd is very solid on both sides of the ball.  They offensively will give multiple looks running both the I formation and the spread.  Their quarterback makes their offense go," said Emmick.  "He is a lot like Elijah in that he is very mobile and can make good things happen with his legs."

Emmick expects an up-tempo game with plenty of air time.

"They have two very good receivers that they like to throw the ball up to and let go get the football," said Emmick.  "Defensively they play a very active 5-2 front.  They like to blitz and their linebackers flow very well," added Emmick.

Butler County will have to work through some injuries this week as several Bears are banged up.

"We have to have some young guys step up this week.  Travis Brooks is likely out with a sprained neck and back.  Kole Dean, Austin McKinney, and Jake Martin are all still hampered with shoulder injuries," said Emmick.  "We will have some young guys that will have to step up on Friday to get the win."

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Todd County.  The game will be broadcast live on WLBQ 1570 AM and streamed on the Beech Tree News website.  Veteran radio broadcaster David Clark will have the call.
