Bears outlast Raiders in district tournament, 67-64

Price becomes Butler County single season scoring leader

BROWNSVILLE — Butler County outlasted Whitesville Trinity 67-64 in the semifinals of the 12th District Boys' Basketball Tournament at Edmonson County High School on Tuesday, Feb. 21.

Sophomore guard Ty Price scored 22 points to lead Butler County to the win. With his effort, Price became the Butler County single season scoring leader. Price has scored 900 points in the 2022-23 boys' high school basketball season. He broke the previous record of 892 points that was held by Chris Bratcher for 30-plus years. 

Butler County edged Whitesville Trinity 15-13 in the opening quarter. 

However, Whitesville Trinity managed to lead 33-27 at halftime. 

The Bears and Raiders were tied 40-40 at the end of the third quarter. 

Finishing strong, Butler County outscored Whitesville Trinity 27-24 in the fourth quarter to claim the win. 

Accompanying Price in double figures for the Bears, Justin Castlen scored 19 points, Lawson Rice netted 16 points and Trever Deweese tallied 10 points.

 

Butler County is scheduled to meet Edmonson County in the 12th District Boys' Basketball Tournament championship game at 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 24.
