Bears level Edmonson County, 13-2

BROWNSVILLE - Butler County claimed its third straight win on the road on Tuesday, defeating host Edmonson County 13-2 in five innings in a 12th District softball game. With the win, Butler County improved to 13-6 overall and 4-2 in the 12th District. Edmonson County dropped to 10-14 overall and 0-6 in the district with the loss.


Butler County scored first and never trailed. After pushing across seven runs in the second inning, Butler County owned a commanding 10-2 lead.
Butler County pitcher Kylee Smith earned the win. Smith allowed six hits and two runs over five innings, striking out one and walking one. Edmonson County pitcher Katie Lindsey took the loss. Lindsey allowed 13 hits and 13 runs over five innings, striking out one.


Butler County connected for 13 hits. Smith, Dixie Garnier, Bayleigh Alford, Ashley Thacker and Olivia Jones each provided multiple hits for the Bears. Garnier went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Butler County's offensive effort. She and teammate Hannah Chaney delivered three RBIs apiece for the Bears.


Players throughout the Butler County batting order contributed at the plate. Aiding the visiting team's offensive attack, Smith and Alford drove in two runs apiece as Butler County prevailed.
Edmonson County, which committed two errors in the field, finished with six hits. Lindsey and Mariena Thomas led the Lady Cats with two hits apiece.
The Bears overcame three errors to triumph in the district matchup.
