Bears, Lady Bears pick up key district wins against Edmonson

MORGANTOWN — Butler County rolled past Edmonson County 80-50 in a 12th District boys' basketball game on Monday. Jan. 29. 

With the win, Butler County improved to 11-6 overall and 3-0 in the 12th District.

Edmonson County dropped to 9-11 overall and 1-3 in the 12th District after suffering the loss. 

Setting the tone, Butler County outscored Edmonson County 17-11 in the opening quarter. 

The Bears led 40-23 at halftime and put the game completely out of Edmonson County's reach after the break.

Butler County led 56-34 at the conclusion of the third quarter. 

Ty Price poured in a game-high 34 points to lead Butler County to the win. Price surpassed 2,000 points in his high school career during the matchup.

Joining Price in double figures for Butler County, Justin Castlen scored 26 points and Briar Griffin netted 11 points. Castlen made eight three-point field goals for the Bears.

Rounding out Butler County's scoring, Lawson Rice added seven points and Trever Deweese contributed two points.

Butler County outlasts Edmonson County 39-36


MORGANTOWN — Butler County outlasted Edmonson County 39-36 in a 12th District girls' basketball game on Monday. Jan. 29. 

With the win, Butler County improved to 12-8 overall and 3-1 in the 12th District.

Edmonson County dropped to 14-5 overall and 2-2 in the 12th District after suffering the loss. 

Visiting Edmonson County edged Butler County 7-6 in the opening quarter.

However, Butler County managed to lead 17-16 midway through the matchup.

Extending its lead after halftime, Butler County led 29-24 at the conclusion of the third quarter. 

Taylor Leach scored 13 points to pace the Lady Bears in the district win.

Accompanying Leach in double figures for Butler County, Ann Marie Skaggs netted 10 points. 

 

Along with the two players in double figures, Butler County received scoring from Ava Wilson (six points), Parker Willoughby (four points), Bailey Moore (four points) and Addison Miller (two points).
