Bears, Lady Bears fall at Grayson

12th District basketball standings got a little more complicated on Friday night as both Butler County teams fell to host Grayson County in a boy-girl doubleheader.  The Lady Bears fell 52-40 in the opening game in what was a reasonably close game throughout, while the Bears found themselves in a significant hole early before losing 75-58.

The Lady Bears trailed 16-10 after the first quarter and 30-23 at the half.  Grayson extended that lead in the second half but the Lady Bears kept it close and trailed by only eight early in the fourth quarter.  Ball control that ran the clock and free throws secured the game for Grayson.  Lynsie Clark led the Lady Bears in scoring with 15 points; Katie Graham had 7; McKenzie Smith 6, Shawna West 5, Chloe Flener 4, Cheyenne White 3.

Maddie Stewart led Grayson in scoring with 11 points.  Grace White had 10.

In the boys game, Butler County ran into a Grayson County buzz saw in the first quarter, falling behind 21-8.  At one point in the second, the Cougars held a 27-8 lead before the Bears narrowed that gap.  Still, Grayson managed to hold on to the lead for the 75-58 win.

Zack Burden led the Bears in scoring with 29 points; Rex Henderson had 12 points.  Zeke Woodcock had 9 points and led the team with seven rebounds.  Rounding out the Butler County scoring was Trevor Jenkins with 5 points, Drew Henderson with 2 points, and Blake Graham with 1 point.

Butler County - both boys and girls - will host Edmonson County on Friday night, February 7, in another 12th District match-up.  Butler County High will also celebrate its annual Bearfest (basketball homecoming).
